Names do not change overnight. If you got married and your name changed, it will take some time. But don’t feel relaxed if this happens mid-travel. Although this is highly unlikely. However, this is covered under Delta name change policy. Here is how the airline follows a customer-friendly name change policy.
Your travel agent can make the correction at his end without requiring any approval (under OSI or other supplementary information).
You can add a middle name after the first name and before last name.
Minor name corrections are allowed free of charge. Name change is not a minor name correction. This Air1Network blog will guide you on how to deal with name changes.
How do you change names on a Delta ticket?
Changing names may not be possible because it is not a minor correction. Correction or change is only possible on a Delta stock ticket with the ticket number beginning with ‘006’. If your ticket was issued by a partner airline (Air France, Aeromexico, Korean Air, Latam or Virgin Atlantic), the concerned airline will be able to assist you with Delta change name on ticket. Name correction may be allowed if it falls in the categories covered by this airline. Here are the types of changes allowed on Delta.

Correction of up to 3 characters in the First name and Last name - Typos are not ignored, but you can change up to 3 characters if that helps your name to appear exactly as it does on a govt.-issued ID.
Inversion of First name and Last name - This sounds bizarre, considering how you officially write the name.
Add a middle name - This will be considered as an addition to the last name.
Even if it is allowed, you may have to call the Global Sales Support or Delta Reservations for minor corrections on selected domestic and international routes. You can reach out to Delta or Air1Network on +1-800-221-1212 or +1-844-414-9223 for assistance with Delta wrong name on ticket.
Does Delta charge a fee for name change?
The airline will not charge you a fee for name change if it is for the purpose of correcting an error. Most minor corrections will be covered without Delta name change fee. The travel agent will not need a waiver code for such corrections. They can reissue the ticket at their end. But it may charge you a ticket handling fee. This varies depending on the travel agency. Name change may require you to pay a higher charge compared to name correction. If the fare got revised you will have to pay the fare difference. You can’t change the route or date of travel when you make changes to name. Name changes or corrections made in the first 24 hours of initial booking may not be chargeable. This is possible only for tickets issued directly by Delta bearing initial digits 006. For name change after marriage Delta will ask you to provide supporting documents. If you don’t have them, you will have to cancel the ticket and rebook it in the correct name. Here are the situations under which you may be asked to pay a fee.
You make a mistake again and you want the ticket to be reissued a second time.
Your mistake is of more than 3 characters, either in the first name or last name.
You are booked on a flight operated by a partner airline of Delta.
Your flight is about to depart in a few hours and you have completed the check-in.
Mistakes of more than 3 characters in the first name or last name cannot be self-corrected under Delta name correction policy. Feel free to reach out to the airline or Air1Network on +1-800-221-1212 or +1-844-414-9223 for assistance with correcting such errors.
