The Korean Air Pet Policy enables people to carry dogs, cats and pet birds onboard though certain policies are to be followed. The pets should be at least 8 weeks of age to travel in the cabin and should be 16 weeks of age when transported in the cargo hold. In its official korean air pet travel policy, the airline specifies the weight, breed, documentation and carrier limits.

Every passenger is permitted to bring one pet in a cabin and two pets in a cargo. Two birds, two cats or two dogs that are less than six months of age are allowed to travel together in a single approved container in some instances. To learn more you can reach Korean Airlines at +1-800-438-5000 or you can call Air1Network at +1-844-414-9223 directly.

What is the weight in Cabin?

Pets in the cabin space of korean air dog policy and general pet rules generally have a size and weight restriction:

·       The weight of a pet and carrier should not exceed 7 kg i.e,15 lb.

·       The pets should not be less than 8 weeks old.

·       The carrier will have to go under the seat before you.

What are the Cabin carrier dimensions?

·       Widest length of 32 cm x deepest length of 45 cm x tallest length of 19 cm including wheel.

·       The soft carriers can be a maximum height of 25 cm provided they can be stamped down to 19 cm.

The carrier should be waterproof, well aerated as well as sealed and it should not to be opened internally. The name and phone number in English should be attached to the outside.

Cargo Hold Travel (Up to 45 kg)

When your pet and carrier weigh over 7kg, the animal should be transported as korean air pet checked baggage in the cargo. The weight should not be more than 45 kg (99 lb).

Cargo carrier requirements:

·       length + width + height should not be more than 291 cm (114 in).

·       Maximum height is 84 cm (33 in).

·       The carrier should be durable made of wood or plastic, well ventilated, waterproof and fastened using screws.

·       Wheels and accessories have to be taken off.

·       Adequate space where the pet is able to stand or lie and move freely.

In certain countries, weight can be limited to over 32 kg (70 lb) when transporting.

There are temperature limitations. When temperatures are above 29°C (84°F) or fall below -7°C (19°F) then pets cannot be transported. There is also a limitation on pet travel that is banned on Boeing 737 and Airbus A321 aircrafts in international and June-September domestic flights, respectively. This clause of the korean air pet cargo regulations provides security in transit.

What are Restricted Pets and Breeds?

Some of the animals are not allowed to travel under the Korean Air Pet Policy. Transport is restricted for:

·       Brutal dogs that are in the Animal Protection Act.

·       Animals with violent behavior.

·       Pregnant pets.

·       Pets that are provided with stabilizers or sleeping pills.

·       Pets with strong odors.

Step 4: Pet transportation before international flights should be requested at least 48 hours before flights and before domestic flights at least 24 hours before flights.

Some aggressive and snub-nosed dogs are restricted particularly in carrying cargo. The approval must be made in advance not less than 48 hours before international flights and not less than 24 hours before domestic Korean Air flights. The charges are based on weight and route. The travelers should also have the necessary health, vaccination and quarantine documents ready depending on the destination policies. Need more help?
